We offer a variety of weekly Christ-centered recovery groups for men and women in the Birmingham area who have been impacted by sexual brokenness in various ways.
We also offer Twelve Step Studies for male sex addicts. Scroll down for more details.
Our free, ongoing support groups meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm (fellowship at 6:00, official group start time is 6:30) at The Church at Brook Hills. Child care is provided through 5th grade. Click HERE for instructions on child care.
Men’s Sexual Addiction Recovery Group: This group is for men dealing with forms of compulsive or addictive sexual behavior (i.e. porn, masturbation, affairs, prostitution, unwanted same-sex activity, etc.). The group is a community that allows strugglers to confess and experience authenticity in a safe, non-judgmental environment. It is a recovery support group, not a “class” or an accountability group. There is no charge for this group, and although we hope men who attend will come regularly, participants can come and go on a weekly basis.
Our group has a Christ-centered 12-Step focus, combining proven approaches to recovery with a strong Gospel message. A focus on the Gospel helps to dispel the crippling shame that most Christian men feel when struggling with sexual brokenness, allowing them to believe what Scripture says is true of them as sons of God; and a commitment to the process of recovery helps to introduce necessary disciplines and new life patterns that will help break old cycles of behavior. The men’s group meets Tuesday evenings (6:00-8:00) in the main church building, in room 130.
Step Study Groups: For men who are ready to begin the process of incorporating the Twelve Step principles into their daily lives, we encourage a one-on-one relationship with a sponsor. However, for men who have difficulty finding a sponsor or who prefer a small group format, we offer groups whose focus is on working through the Steps. While the Men’s Recovery Group offers an environment for men to begin to experience community and acceptance, the Step Study Group digs deeper into the principles of recovery. Participants agree to a 15 week commitment in which they complete homework and participate in the weekly meetings. Our next Step Study group begins June 20, 2017. Click HERE for more information.

Women’s Spouse/Partner’s Support Group: Though a primary focus of this group is women who have been affected by their husband’s sexual behavior, there is also benefit for any woman who experiences unhealthy relationships. Many wives of sex addicts experience significant and unexpected trauma following their discovery of their husband’s actions. There is no charge for this group, and though we hope women will attend regularly, participants can come and go on a weekly basis.
The group focuses on identifying issues that keep women “stuck” in unhealthy relationship dynamics, and on changes in beliefs and actions that can help them become healthy apart from their husband’s progress. While restoration to a healthy marriage is the ultimate goal, we recognize that getting healthy on an individual level – rather than on trying to change another person – is a better goal. Women who attend the group find an understanding group who support them without judgment. The spouse/partner’s group meets Tuesday nights (6:00-8:00) on the third floor of the Brook Hills main building, in room 301.
Women’s Sexual Addiction Recovery Group: Women are among the fastest growing segments of people who struggle with sexual addiction & compulsive behavior. And while feelings of shame are common to all people who are addicted to porn and sex, it can be particularly heightened in women, since sexual addiction has typically been thought of as a “men’s issue.” There is no charge for this group, and though we hope women will attend regularly, participants can come and go on a weekly basis.
Our women’s recovery group for strugglers takes the same approach as our men’s group, but with an obvious emphasis on how the struggle uniquely affects women. The group utilizes a Christ-centered 12-Step approach, also using other great resources to encourage and equip women for their recovery journey. The women’s sexual addiction recovery group meets Tuesday nights (6:30-8:00) on the third floor of the Brook Hills main building, in room 303.
