The Awaken 4S Model

Greg Oliver explains the Awaken 4S Recovery Model
We believe the Bible, recovery tradition, therapy, and community ALL provide helpful ways for people to find freedom from unwanted or addictive sexual behavior, as well as healing from sexual betrayal trauma. We employ a model of recovery that accents the importance of all of these elements.
We call it the Awaken 4S Model.
Sobriety
When we act out we don’t have full mental, emotional, or spiritual clarity. Sobriety doesn’t cure us, but it does put us in a position where we better understand where we’ve been and where we need to go
Safety
In our women’s betrayal trauma community, the first S stands for safety. Women with sexual betrayal trauma need a safe place to begin to process their trauma and grief.
Structure
We have developed many unhealthy behavior patterns, and in recovery we replace them with healthier ways of living. Counseling, community, and 12-Step work are just a few of the many ways we can develop healthy structure in our lives.
Surrender
Addiction and trauma develop from brokenness and wounds we’ve tried throughout our lives to manage and control on our own. In recovery we learn to engage with God, to surrender control of our lives to Him, and to trust Him for healing.
Support
We cannot experience recovery from a place of isolation. Safe and supportive community reminds us we are not alone, and that while it will not be quick or easy, change is possible.
